Frost Dried--Newly netted snowshoes, babiche, otter skins, etc., were hung in the cold frosty air in order to whiten and improve their appearance.

Most of the beaver pelts are frost dried; that is, they are stretched and placed outside to freeze, then brought in to be scraped, washed and dried a little. This process is repeated until the pelt is perfectly dry and the leather is very light in colour.
